What’s in a Name? [Contest]
Coming from a Marketing and Business Development background, I cringe every time I see the name of my blog - Nokia S60 3rd Edition Applications Review. I admit that I was in a mad dash to get this blog up and running for various reasons, but that is no excuse! I must have been drunk… ;)
Especially when it comes to blogs, a name is one of the first things that potential readers come in contact with when they first experience your “product” and it should be concise, catchy and to the point. My blog name is certainly to the point, but catchy and concise it surely is not!
There is also another reason for my decision to change the name of my blog. While the main focus will continue to be application reviews, you’ll find that in the coming months I will be covering a much wider range of content (details to follow).
So what am I going to do about it?
—————————–
With this post I announce my first official contest: Name My Blog!
This contest begins right now and will be concluded at 11:59pm EST on Sunday May 13. The rules are simple: Below, you will find five options for the new name of my blog. Simply pick your favorite and email me at NameMyBlog [[at]] gmail [[dot]] com with your vote (one vote per person please). If you have a different suggestion for a name then feel free to email me with it and if I like it I’ll add it to the list of choices. Bear in mind though that voting starts right now and the longer you wait to email me with your suggestion, the less time readers will have to vote for it! The name that receives the most votes will become the new name of my blog! So here are the choices:
1. Symbian In Motion
2. Symbian Life
3. Symbian Center
4. Surrounding Symbian
5. Science of Symbian
Email your vote to: NameMyBlog [[at]] gmail [[dot]] com
Prize: With every contest there should be a prize and this one is no different. Everyone who emails me and votes for the name that ends up winning will be automatically entered into a drawing. I will randomly select one prize winner to receive a free $50 gift card (electronic gift card) valid for any software purchases at www.handango.com - the most popular source of mobile games and applications on the internet!

Email your vote now and good luck to everyone!
—————————–
Selection Process: The email addresses of all readers who voted for the winning blog name will be entered into an Excel spreadsheet in the order that their email was received. Numbers corresponding to each line item (email address) in the spreadsheet will be written on individual pieces of paper and placed collectively into a receptacle. One piece of paper will be randomly drawn and the email address corresponding to the drawn number will win the gift card.

Since applications enhance your life with your S60 device, and you cover applications so well, I think it's fitting.

I see you, your brand, as a blog i enjoy reading. I honestly couldn't tell you the name of what it was prior to this post, and I doubt very much I will remember afterwards. I would more likely remember your name, or something attributable to the blog (such as the distinct colour scheme) than any title the blog may have.
With that said, I must say I'm not so fond of any of the rather cheesy suggestions either. I realise that your current title is a little... long, but it isn't pretentious and is certainly, as you put it, to the point.
So - I vote for no change. 'If it aint broke...'

I think the key thing is having a simple and functional blog, easy to navigate and recognisable, (why does google come to mind?).
Tommi's blog layout for example is personally appealing to me.
Besides all those names are all too corny for my liking. If anything decent comes to mind, I'll let you know, you can choose to use it or not.

A bunch of votes have come in so far but keep them coming. $50 can buy a bunch of great apps!

If you could divulge the new "mystery" depth of your future blogs, that might make naming it easier for us as well. E.g. Science of Symbian could be good if you're going to go further in depth into the OS, but wont work as well if we are talking more personal traits (like if you were going to be doing many more interviews, say).
(Apologies for sounding overly critical, thats the problem with text-based conversations - I don't mean to :))

In terms of future plans, what I can say is that the scope of this blog will widen a good deal beyond application reviews - including device reviews, more tips/tricks, possibly some interviews as you mention, games/themes/other content coverage, contests, coverage of some non-s60 3rd OS devices, some op-ed, guest authors covering a range of topics, "and more"...
My goal is to use a broader name (as most in this blogosphere do) to escape a pigeon hole as I mentioned. I agree that some of the names are "cheesy", but I've never been great at naming things (duh! ;) ). The purpose of this contest is to take care of the renaming interactively and get people used to the new name before my scope of coverage widens.
My personal favorite is Symbian In Motion (is that one really cheesy?). Symbian is a phenomenal platform as we all agree, but why is it so great? In my mind, it's the versatility and the amazing developers that program for it. Symbian itself is great, but the apps and the ever-evolving functionalities are what really allow the user to get the most out of their device. [Pause for cheesy tie-in...] They put Symbian in motion.
This blog will always be app-centric and I'd like the name to reflect that, but I also need it to be 'vague' enough to accommodate a variety of other content.

I will go for Symbian in Motion. Or perhaps Life with Symbian?

I also think it is the least cheesy, if that makes a difference, so would have probably got my vote anyway.
Do we get a preliminary reading? are any ahead? have you got any votes other than the ones in the comments...? ;)

Well I don't want to sway anyone any more than I already have but I will say that all of the votes that I have received (lol, more than just here in the comments section but not as many as I thought I would be now - I must have wealthy readers! ;) ) are split amongst three of the five options. Two of the options haven't received a single vote between them! :)
