GamesFlash by Christopher Caleb
I’m not a big gamer - in fact Jaiku has pretty much eliminated my mobile gaming entirely. When it comes to the latest S60 devices however, I know that I’m in the minority. Gaming is a HUGE part of the mobile world and the hype surrounding the upcoming Ngage platform is perfect evidence of this fact. Many S60 devices handle games very well and the N95 brings it to a whole new level. Wouldn’t it be great though if there was an app that would let you access news, reviews and pics of the latest games as they become available? If you said yes, then I have great news for you…
GamesFlash is a very cool little freeware app that provides you with info and reviews of the latest handheld games right on your mobile! This app isn’t restricted to mobile gaming however; you also get previews of upcoming console games!

The UI is very well designed and attractive. Navigation is logical and the app is compatible with WLAN for optimal performance.

Your girlfriend might constantly tell you that you spend too much time playing games - but she never said anything about checking out previews on GamesFlash! ;)
Compatible devices:
- Nokia 6110 Navigator
- Nokia 6120
- Nokia N76
- Nokia N95

cCam by Chua Welic
If I had a dollar for every time I read a variation of the question “How do I disable the shutter sound on my camera?” on a forum, I’d have to shut this blog down because I’d be too busy swimming around in cash to write. I’m not sure exactly why people hate shutter sounds so much - is it because everyone on the internet is running an upsk!rt site or something? Whatever the case may be, the answer to your perverted prayers has arrived. ;)

cCam is a very small utility that does only one thing - it captures photos without a shutter sound. Regardless of your current profile this app will silently snap pics at the maximum resolution (resolution is not adjustable) and store it in the Images directory on your MMC (or phone if that’s the default). Updated version 1.01 was just released by its author and replaces the older beta version.
Simply open the app, line up your shot and click the center d-pad key to take your pic. The result will be shown on your screen and from within the Options menu you can either take a new pic, go to the image gallery or exit the app.

That’s all there is to this simple app! It’s so simple in fact that it doesn’t even install with an icon on my device. No matter though as the app works well and does exactly what it needs to do. Now download and enjoy - and we can expect the volume on those shady sites to triple any minute now…

Jaiku Mobile 0.80 is Released!
I reviewed Jaiku Mobile earlier this week and promised that I would post once it became available to the public. Well the wait is over! Yesterday the announcement was made on the Jaikido Blog that version 0.80 is now available for download.
I’m already starting to see more green presence lights on my client and I couldn’t be happier for the wonderful team behind Jaiku or the users that make up my favorite SoNet. :)

Quick Clicks #5

Big news from Silent Communication came recently with the announcement that France Telecom-owned Orange France is now offering Silent’s innovative communication solution TalkinSilent to their Symbian customers. Rebadged as “réponse discrète,” this great app is now available as a mobile download on the following Orange-branded Nokia models: 6680, N70, 6630, E61, E65, N95 and 6120.
As more carriers begin to recognize the benefits that the TalkinSilent solution provides, hopefully it’s only a matter of time before this useful app is available to all of us! In the meantime, you can download the trial version here and keep emailing your carrier if it’s not already available in your region.

Mobile IM and MoIP solution fring has recently been updated and now includes ICQ support.

Just as with any other integrated service, to enable ICQ in fring simply go to Options -> Settings -> Configure Services and enter your ICQ detials. If you don’t already use fring, you should check out my review of this great freeware app and then head over to their site and sign up!

Have you ever had a little jingle in your head that you thought would make a great message alert or ringtone? It probably happens all the time but once you finally get to a PC the odds are pretty good that you’ve forgotten it (if you even have a MIDI editor to create your tone). Thanks to a new app by mBounce you can create melodies on the go right on your S60 3rd device!
MusicBox is a fun little piece of freeware that allows you to create short songs that sound like they’re being played by an old music box. It’s very easy to use and outputs MIDI files that are compatible with just about every modern mobile phone. The app opens to the main editor screen where you use the directional pad to place notes on the three-octave piano roll. As you progress you can play your tune at any time by choosing Options -> Play.

Once your ditty is just the way you want it, MusicBox allows you to save it to any directory on your phone or MMC. You can also send the MIDI output to nearby friends quickly and easily via bluetooth by selecting Options -> Send. No need to deprive your friends that aren’t close by of your masterpiece though! You can easily save your song and then attach the MIDI file to an email or MMS.

5 Blogs That I Read
S60 theming master p@sco has tagged me with a new meme floating and although this one is very short and sweet, I actually really like it. It’s too easy to ignore blogrolls so this is a nice quick way for readers to be introduced to some blogs that they might not have come across otherwise…
The Rules:
- Name five blogs from different countries that you read
- Those five bloggers are tagged with this meme and should participate (if they choose)
The Blogs:
- Mobile Point View (USA)
- S60devices (Pakistan)
- E61 Effect (Germany) click here for an English translation
- Living with a Nokia N95 (UK)
- mTrends (Spain)
Happy reading :)
