Quick Clicks #6
Sorry to all of my readers for being relatively quiet but I’ve been extremely busy lately and now I’m actually on an anything-but-relaxing vacation. I have a couple of posts in the works but in the meantime I thought I might try to tide you over with a new edition of Quick Clicks. This edition has some very cool news and it’s packed full of great themes so enjoy! :)

It seems that each time I start straying away from fring, they reel me right back in with new features. The latest version brings some big and much-needed changes that make using fring FAR more enjoyable. Here are the two biggest changes in version 3.23:

Firstly, fring now supports ringtones! If I hear to hear that annoying chime sound one more time I think I might have thrown my phone through a window. The latest build of fring comes with some tones to choose from but more importantly you can choose any compatible tone on your phone.

The other big change in 3.23 is that fring now supports WiFi auto-roaming and AP groups! This means that WLAN users don’t have to bother with adjusting connection settings as they roam from hotspot to hotspot. Also with AP group support users can define a series of access points and fring will automatically search for each one in order until it finds an available AP and connects. Great work fring!

My favorite calculator - in fact the only calculator that I ever use on my S60 devices - is Calcium by mtvoid. Calcium is an extremely simple calculator that sits behind a sleek interface with very usable controls. mtvoid has recently updated this great app and here’s the change log:
- No more customized versions. Works on all resolutions and includes RPN mode
- Indicator for when there is a value in memory and memory is not lost when restarting the application
- Help information is shown the first time the application is run

As I’m sure you’ve seen, CoreCodec has finally released a version of their extremely popular CorePlayer app for S60 3rd. The app is a skinnable media player that is compatible with a whole host of audio and video formats. Using this great app you no longer have to worry about converting all of your media to one particular format because as long as it’s not DRM-protected, odds are that CorePlayer will play it. Look for a full review of CorePlayer in the coming weeks here on SiMo.
