Jaiku Acquired by Google
Well it’s the dream of every web startup and it just came true for the folks behind Jaiku. Google has acquired my favorite social network/microblogging site:
Jaiku is joining Google. While it’s too soon to comment on specific plans, we look forward to working with our new friends at Google over the coming months to expand in ways we hope you’ll find interesting and useful. Our engineers are excited to be working together and enthusiastic developers lead to great innovation. We look forward to accomplishing great things together. In order to focus on innovation instead of scaling, we have decided to close new user sign-ups for now…
A big congrats to Jyri, Petteri and the rest of the team behind this great web 2.0 masterpiece. I hope things keep getting better for all involved and for the service itself.
We’ll have to see what happens moving forward but as Google always does, new user registration is now closed to the public. Note that the info page says existing users can still “invite new friends” but I’m not sure exactly what that means. I don’t see anywhere on the site right now to send an invite…
If you’re not yet a Jaiku user you can also request an invite here.
