Free Shipping to US from Proporta During June

Normally I don’t post stuff like this but I haven’t yet had a chance to talk about my Proporta battery pack here on SiMo so I feel like I owe them one. Long story short, I’m really not sure how I survived without one. Proporta’s 3400 mAh mobile battery pack is an absolute must-have to combat the poor battery life experienced with most Nseries / Eseries handsets. It will refuel your Nokia (or iPhone, or iPod, or Samsung, or Sony Ericsson, etc) about three times on a single charge and if you’re a power user, you need one.

Proporta also makes a load of handset cases and other items design to protect mobile devices. Been thinking about checking something out? Well this might just be the push you needed:

Proporta love that they have such a good relationship with their customers across the pond. To celebrate such a wonderful friendship, we’re offering free shipping on all orders placed to the U.S. throughout the month of June.

Simply place your order between the 1st and 30th June 2008, and if you live in the U.S., you’ll get your shipping free of charge. Enjoy.

Two New Open to Anything Commercials

I’ll let the commercials do the talking. Enjoy. :)

Also, there’s another Open to Anything event tonight in Chicago. If you can’t make it, WOM World’s Qik stream is the next best thing…

Nokia Celebrates Memorial Day with New N95 NAM Firmware

S60 people, stop drooling over the E71 for a few minutes so that we can give you some important news. Remember how we reported on the guy from Nokia stated that the new v20 firmware for the N95 NAM would be out in early June? Yeah, he totally lied. Ok, maybe he didn’t lie and plans were just changed a bit. As of early this morning the updated firmware is available for all to enjoy, possibly to celebrate Memorial Day. Whatever the case may be, it’s taken entirely too long but it’s here so back up your phone and get to flashing. Some noted improvements:

  • Flash Lite 3 support
  • Faster bootup
  • Faster camera load time
  • Integrated Search
  • Demand paging
  • No ASR
  • N-Gage demos

So there you have it; better than any Memorial Day sale we can think of. Hit the Nokia Software Updater and get rolling.

Hello Disqus, Goodbye Comments

Disqus, the oh-so-awesome comment management system that I use on all of my other blogs, can now be found on SiMo! Woo hoo! SiMo readers will now see much more organized comments beneath each post. What you won’t see however, is the thousands of comments that had been present on SiMo posts. Sorry guys - unfortunately Disqus doesn’t currently support importing old comments. If there’s something in particular you were looking for, just shoot me an email and I’ll see what I can do to dig it up for you.

If you’re not already registered with Disqus, I highly recommend you do so. Rather than just seeing a string of sequential comments, Disqus provides a tree-like structure allowing you to reply to individual comments so that various conversations can take place in an organized manner. If you are a registered Disqus member, you will receive email notifications whenever someone replies to one of your comments. What’s more, you can simply reply to the email with your response and it will be posted here on SiMo in the appropriate place. Sweet!

As a new feature that was just added, Disqus now supports video commenting as well thanks to Seesmic. This means that you can add video responses that will be posted in line if you so choose. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the concept, but it’s there if you want it.

So give it a whirl and if you have your own blog, I highly recommend that you consider using Disqus to manage your comments.

A New Blog, an Overdue Link and Some Insight

Catching up, catching up… I’ve been oh so very busy lately as has Abul but we’re doing our very best to keep some good information flowing through SiMo. Of course SiMo is hardly the only thing that each of us works on these days. To say our schedules are full is an understatement.

On my end of things, I’ve been swamped. I won’t bore you with the details, but I will mention one thing: I’ve launched a new blog! What? Huh? He’s already down to three hours of sleep each night and he launched another blog? Ok, simmer down now - it’s just a tumblr blog. ;) My new blog will by personal sketch pad. It will reach well outside of SiMo and BGR into various areas and it will of course concentrate on technology, the internet and all that is mobile (I’m sure you’ll find Symbian / Nokia-related topics on there quite frequently). You’ll also find some fun stuff come through in my Qik feeds, etc. I’m unsure how often it will be updated but I’m hoping for at least a few times per week. Tumblr is a great platform for a personal blog like this as it is quite flexible for a free platform. So please, check it out and feel free to subscribe:

maramine

You’ll also find a new link to maramine in the sidebar just under the search box. The old link was to BGR but I think everyone knows I write there by now. Beneath the maramine link you’ll find another new link that should have gone up a loooooong time ago. Abul’s blog, Adonis Mobile, has been up for quite some time and covers a variety of content surrounding the mobile world. Adonis Mobile is quite popular in fact and if the feed is not currently in your reader of choice, I highly recommend that you add it.

Adonis Mobile

Beyond everything else, Abul and I are both gearing up for a refresh at Mobile9. Currently ranked 254 by Alexa, Mobile9 sees over 29 million unique users per month who view an astounding 250 million pages per month. Needless to say there is tremendous amount of potential for this already successful site and as we continue to mold and refine our offering and focus, we couldn’t be more excited about the future.

So there you have it. Getting back on topic, 2008 is going to be a fantastic year to be a Nokia fan. Plenty of exciting things will be coming out of Finland this year; some we know about already and some we don’t. Here at SiMo, we’re going to do our best to keep up and bring you all of the information we can as soon as it becomes available to us. Stay tuned!
