S60 theming master p@sco has tagged me with a new meme floating and although this one is very short and sweet, I actually really like it. It’s too easy to ignore blogrolls so this is a nice quick way for readers to be introduced to some blogs that they might not have come across otherwise…

A few fun memes have been flying around lately and I’ve been tagged with a few of them. The “8 Random Things” meme actually found its way to me several times but I think I did enough damage the first time I participated… ;)

The latest meme that I’ve been tagged with comes from Tarek of Symbiano-Tek as he asks “What’s on a Blogger’s phone?” - or what apps do I use most? Because of the nature of this blog I go through so many apps that it’s hard to keep track of them all. It would be VERY hard for me to say which apps are my favorites, but I can surely talk about a few that have been getting a lot of face time on my E61i these days.

• Jaiku - The Jaiku team was nice enough to include me in their closed beta program and I have to say that I am absolutely loving their app. At this point it is one of the few apps that is running on my device at all times - excluding background apps of course. If you’re not already on Jaiku definitely check it out - it is my social network of choice and in my opinion it’s leaps and bounds above others that i have sampled such as twitter and pownce. The latest beta should be released to the public very soon and when it is you will surely read about it here.
• Palringo - I am pretty much logged on to Palringo at all times; either on my mobile or on my PC. In fact, it’s the only IM app that I use regularly (aside from Skype for business). If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re crazy. Palringo gives you IM, group IM, vocal IM (aka Walkie-Talkie/PTT), group vocal IM, photo IM and group photo IM… all for free! Beyond that, the team behind Palringo is amazingly fast and responsive when it comes to development. They have so much in the pipeline right now - including one big announcement that I’ll be posting about in the coming week or two. :)
• S60 Internet Radio - At my office we try to limit unnecessary bandwidth consumption for a number of reasons and this was a big problem for me until I cam across the S60 Internet Radio app. This open source freeware app from Nokia lets me listen to all of my favorite internet radio stations over my EDGE/WLAN connection and I would be lost without it.
• Handy Weather - There are a few apps now that give you access to weather conditions and forecasts, but none that I enjoy as much as Handy Weather. I love the set up, the features, and the fact that I can glance at my screen saver and see the current and next day’s weather conditions.
• NStarter - I recently revewed NStarter here and I’ve been using and loving it ever since. NStarter gives you 12 hot key shortcuts that can be assigned to just about anything on your device - including language changes as of version 1.03!

Well, that’s enough for now I think. Beyond apps that just run in the background without any need for interaction (such as Best Profiles, IVCM, TimeBar, etc) the above definitely have been getting a tremendous amount of usage on my device lately. So with that I’ll tag Jonathan of atmaspheric endeavors (by way of Jaiku). I’m curious to read about what Jonathan uses most on his N95 and if/how he accomplishes similar functionality on his new iPhone!

Olly of without hyphens has tagged me with the “8 Random Things About Me” meme. I think stuff like this is cool for many reasons - namely you learn some things about bloggers that you wouldn’t otherwise know, and also if you track your way back through the ‘tags’ you always find some cool new blogs!

First the rules:

• We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
• Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
• People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
• At the end of your blog post, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
• Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Here are my 8 random things:

1. I have lived on the east coast of the US for my entire life - and I want out! :) I was born in Staten Island NY and lived there until I was five or six. Then I moved to a smaller town in the suburbs of New Jersey about 20 minutes west of the George Washington Bridge. From there I moved up to Boston for a short run at Northeastern University before transferring back down to a school in New York and living in Manhattan. After that, I moved back into NJ and have been living here in a town a few miles from my parents who still live in the same house we moved into from Staten Island. I’ve done a good amount of traveling for the average American (Russia, Norway, many places in Europe and the US…) but I would love to live somewhere else for a few years at least.

2. I went to school for Audio Engineering and Music Production. The school is called SAE and I went to their Manhattan location. I’ve been a ‘musician’ since I was very young and music has always been my biggest passion (and probably always will).

3. I do not work in the music industry. In what turned out to be a good move (in some respects) I decided to take a summer job after leaving SAE. The goal at the time was to earn and save some money before jumping into the volatile music industry. As it turned out, my summer job lasted about five years and I then moved to another company in the same industry where I’ve been for about two and a half years. What industry? Satellite Communications. What do I do exactly?

4. I am in Business Development and I’m not shy in saying that I’m good at what I do. At my last job I worked for a very small company and learned a lot about many of the different aspects of the industry and business in general. My main focuses however for the majority of my tenure there were marketing, advertising and promotions. I’ve used knowledge and experience gained there to shift gears with my new job and widen my scope. As Business Development Manager of my current company I’ve arranged several lucrative relationships and overseen the development of many new products and services. Our revenue has increased dramatically since I started.

5. I am Agnostic, and I have been as long as I can remember - even before I ever heard the word “Agnostic” or knew what it meant. I don’t believe in any conventional view of God, heaven, hell etc. I believe that there is in fact a “higher power” that affects everything in some way, but that it is so complex that there is no way the human mind could ever comprehend its characteristics, nature or significance.

6. I am a registered member of the Democratic party but I am not truly a Democrat or a Republican, or anything in between. When I was young my Grandmother once said to me, “All politicians are pigs. The difference between Democrats and Republicans is that Republicans rush to the trough and devour everything inside. Democrats devour almost everything in the trough as well but they occasionally let some crumbs spill over for the smaller animals to feed on.” That stuck with me so i always vote Democrat.

7. Guilty pleasure: Most men complain when their wife/girlfriend/SO makes them watch chick-shows on TV. I complain as well, but there are a few I actually enjoy (don’t make me name them!).

8. When I was in high school/early college I had a four-gauge tongue piercing, a 12-gauge labret, and a 10-gauge prince albert. If you don’t know what that is, don’t look it up.
