TextQuick Updated to v1.5
Back in July I told you about a great app by Mind-Flip called TextQuick. To refresh your memory, TextQuick provides your contact list in order according to messaging frequency. Your most-texted contact is at the top of the list and then the order descends to your least-texted contact. Beneath that you will find an alphabetical listing of all contacts in your phonebook with whom you have exchanged no messages. The app gives you fast and easy access to your “most popular” contacts and you can initiate an SMS (with the recipient field populated) or a phone call with a few quick clicks. Sweet!

Now I’m happy to announce that this app has just received an update that you’ll all be very interested in. Really the only main barrier when it came to previous versions of this great app was that there was no trial available. Those who took my word for it often emailed me to let me know that they loved it, but it’s still hard to make even a small app purchase without being able to test the waters.
As such, Mind-Flip now provides a trial period. What’s more is that it’s the most generous trial period I’ve seen! You’ll now have one full month from the date of installation to determine if this app is right for you. It took me all of 5 minutes before I knew I couldn’t live without it but hey, better safe than sorry.
Click here to go to the download page and check out the trial or upgrade your existing version. Note that you should contact the developer for an upgrade if you’ve already purchased an earlier version.

CommentsNokia Beta Labs Updates
Nokia Beta Labs has been busy updating a few of the applications since the start of the New Year.
First up is Nokia Nseries PC Suite. What’s the difference between the Nseries and the Normal PC Suite? Apart from the graphical interface I can’t say as;
- I can’t install it, there is no support for Windows XP SP1 users, (I have left feedback in regards to this before the update but still no cigar here)
- There is no list on the download page of the features it provides.
I’m going to guess it does the same as the Normal PC Suite and it’s just a beta testing application which will replace the Normal PC Suite as the N Series grows. I’d like to give a nice glance over it but as I say I can’t install it as XP SP2 is required to install, so for now here is an overview and download link:

Overview
Nokia Nseries PC Suite is a collection of Nokia Nseries and third-party PC applications that seamlessly tie together your Nokia Nseries multimedia device and your PC. Use the applications to transfer photos or videos from your device to your PC, to copy your favourite music from your PC to your device or to synchronize your calendar and contact information. And much more.
If you already have the old Nseries PC Suite 2.0 in your PC, it is recommended to manually uninstall the old version before running the NEW improved version of Nseries PC Suite.
Next up is Conversation, this is a neat application which takes a different approach with how you use SMS on your handset. It displays you’re SMS’s in a IM style conversation view (hence the name), I’ve tried it but initially had problems with sending messages whilst the application was installed on my N95. Seems like this issue has been fixed and is now available again for N95 users. The application also supports many other handsets, for more info and to download the appropriate version just head over to the Conversation download page.

Overview
Conversation is a messaging application that allows you to follow your conversations, organized by individual contact. In addition, the application provides an easy way to reply to messages, and continue the conversations.
After installation, the application will appear in your device as an application shortcut, and as a new tab in your Contacts application.

CommentsFlip Silent Updated to Version 1.02 (Saves Battery Life!)
Flip Silent, the awesome app that I spoke about in an earlier post, has just received a very important update. For those who missed it, Flip Silent makes use of the accelerometer allowing you to silence your ringer by simply rotating your phone face-down (like the S60 Touch demo video). Version 1.01 was great as we all know, giving us a good amount of flexibility and control over operation. Version 1.02 adds two simple change log entries but they make a huge impact on the app.
- Save Battery Power: you can activate the sensor when a call coming in!
- Full control of switch between profiles, both flip over and flip back!
As much as I enjoy this app, the older version was a battery hog. Typically when I wake up in the morning, my N95-3 has the same number of battery bars it had when I went to sleep. With v1.01 of Flip Silent running, I would lose 4-5 bars! That’s a bit much and I suggested to the author (as I’m sure many did) that he enable a sleep mode where the app sensor “awakens” only when activity is detected.

Version 1.02 brings us half way there. Flip Silent can now be configured to “go to sleep”, and the difference in battery life is hugely apparent. The new problem however is that only incoming calls wake it up. This means that when an incoming call rings through you can flip your phone over to silence it, but later when you turn your device face-up again it remains in silent mode. Any activity, even simply sliding your device open / unlocking it should re-enable Flip Silent and once it senses that the device is not face-down it should revert to the profile (as configured) and go back to sleep until another incoming call wakes it up.
Rest assured, this functionality will be added in upcoming versions. Developer Tong Ren is really making a splash with this app and each new version brings further refinement. If you have ideas for Ren, make sure you leave a comment for him!
