Motorola U9
The Motorola U9 borrows most of its design traits from the old Motorola PEBL. However, while the PEBL was finished in a sober matt black rubberised finish, the pink and purple metallic options available with the U9 are a little flamboyant for our tastes, but should attract a female following. However, design and finish have always been Motorola. [Read]
Motorola hopes for revival with touch phone
In a nod to what consumers seem to want from a phone, considering Apple's success with the iPhone, Motorola has introduced a new music phone with touch-screen controls. The Rokr E8 is the next iteration of the Schaumburg, Ill., company's music phones, and this one has some intriguing features. Using Motorola's version of touch controls, what it calls "haptics," the phone can switch from music to call mode with the touch of the screen. A virtual keypad sits on the glasslike front of the phone with one button dedicated to music. Touch that button and the keypad disappears and music controls appear. [Read]

The limited edition Ferrari Motorola Z8 cell phone
Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines. The big M has apparently picked its pony, because what you see here is the limited edition Ferrari Motorola Z8 cell phone. The Italian automaker seems to be lending its name to all sorts of electronics these days, presumably because most of us can't afford to buy an actual Ferrari car. The next best thing, I suppose, would be an Acer Ferrari notebook or this Ferrari Motorola mobile phone. As you can quite plainly see, this limited edition handset has been emblazoned with all sorts of Ferrari branding, including logos and a hot black-and-red color scheme. Some people call it a banana phone, but the limited edition Ferrari Motorola Z8 is one speedy-looking banana. [Read]

Motorola is acquiring Soundbuzz, Singapore-based pan-Asian music provider, in order to expand its "MotoMusic" service into India, South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. For the past two years, the "MotoMusic" service has been delivering mobile music to consumers through Motorola's carrier customers in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Headquartered in Singapore, Soundbuzz has its own digital music store for the consumer that offers mobile downloads based on the 'Open Mobile Alliance' (OMA) digital rights management (DRM) technology. Thin Razr 2 sales cause slide in Motorola share price
Shares of cellphone giant Motorola Inc. dropped the most in nine months in New York trading yesterday after a Citigroup Inc. analyst said holiday sales suffered because of an absence of desirable phones. Demand for Motorola's Razr 2 was "lacklustre," Citigroup's Jim Suva of San Francisco wrote in a note. He cut his price target on the stock to $18.50 from $22.50. [Read]

Motorola's iPhone Killer Coming Tuesday
Competition is the heart of the capitalist system. Just ask Motorola CEO Ed Zander, who says that the iPhone is helping to stimulate the cell phone market. Zander has accepted Apple's challenge and announced that Motorola will introduce a media-centric iPhone competitor on Tuesday. Unlike the iPhone, the Motorola phone will feature 3G capability for blazing fast Internet. The phone will also come with an SD slot, which Motorola plans to fill with preloaded video and audio. Jobs lost across the country
It has been a traumatic week for employees in many parts of the country as one company after another announced lay-offs or plant closures. In all, around 1,000 people in Nenagh, Cork, Limerick and Dublin were told they were to lose their jobs. Probably the most significant announcement came from Cork where Motorola announced on Thursday that it is closing its Cork facility in the wake of an earlier decision to move all engineering roles to another site. Without engineering the Cork operation was no longer viable. The decision means the loss of 330 jobs by the end of May; 20 staff will be retained but they will work from their homes. For the most part employees had a positive outlook. They issued a statement in which they looked back positively on their time with the company, both from a professional and personal standpoint. Those who were interviewed on television were optimistic about their ability to find alternative employment. [Read]
RUMOR: Is the Motorola MOTO Q q9 coming to AT&T
There's not too much to say except that Engadget Mobile received a grainy (looking) Photoshop rendering which shows a Motorola MOTO Q q9 with an AT&T logo on the back. For sure, we have seen live photos of a Motorola MOTO Q q9 with a Vodafone logo before as well (but haven't heard any official announcements yet) so it might be just a Motorola rendering for a AT&T presentation, how such a customized device can look like. Motorola K1 Camera Phone review
LetsGoMobile published the Motorola K1 review. The Motorola K1 mobile cell phone is a rather striking blue colour and it shines and glistens. You can flip open the Motorola KRZR K1. When the phone is closed, the time, date, status indicators and announcements about incoming calls and other matters are given on the external screen. On the one hand, the Motorola KRZR K1 looks professional, but on the other, its shiny appearance makes a rather kitsch impression. [Read]
Motorola throws back, unveils StarTac III MS900
Considering that Motorola has been yearning to duplicate the monumental success of the RAZR with, well, anything, we can't quite decide what to make of the firm's desperate / throw back attempt to conjure sales with an all new StarTac. Sure, the Moto mainstay holds a dear place in many of our hearts, and even the short-lived 2004 edition was appreciated for its nostalgic flair, but the 3.2-ounce StarTac III MS900 just seems a bit too vintage to actually enjoy in this millennium. Aside from such glaring omissions as a basic camera and external LCD, it does sport a very pocket-friendly design, simplistic style, MP3 playback, an electronic dictionary, questionable e-book functionality, GPS, and 128MB of built-in memory. Additionally, you'll find a two-inch QVGA display, mobile banking abilities, 160 minutes of talk time (300 hours in standby), and a mysterious "biorhythm" function to boot. As expected, there's no set price or release date for this blast from the past just yet, but with such niceties looming just around the corner, we've serious doubts about folks diving back into yesteryear with their new handsets. Motorola Loses Silly Domain Swipe Attempt
Motorola has lost an attempt to wrest the domain motorazr.com from the current owners. A WIPO Administrative Panel determined that the domain wasn't registered in "Bad Faith," the third (and necessary) finding required for a claimant to prevail in such matters. Put simply, the site contains an actual website with device profiles, galleries, discussion forums and the like, rendering Motorola's claim, that it was "expressly designed to misdirect readers into an advertising site," obvious balderdash.
