Sony Ericsson "Too Dependent" On Walkman and Cybershot Brands
Another downbeat story on Sony Ericsson, which is increasingly being seen as the handset market's next Motorola. The FT interviewed Dick Komiyama, president of Sony Ericsson, who said rather gloomily, "Well, there's always Christmas. Christmas always comes." There's no doubt the high-end handset maker is in a spot of trouble. Profit plummeted 97 percent in the last quarter, while its biggest market, Europe is seeing phone sales fall, and mid-high end handset margins are coming down. [Read]

Mysterious Sony Ericsson full touch-screen mobile appears again: video
Back in May there were rumours surfing the net waves of a mysterious Sony Ericsson mobile handset that sports PSP type icons. Well apparently according to MobileWhack, Se-nse got hold of a new updated video, which shows it, isn't the PSP phone. What we can tell from the captured image is that the mysterious Sony Ericsson mobile phone incorporates a two-way mechanism much like the N95; slide down to allow access to multimedia controls, slide up for use of the mobile's camera. We've been tracking the Zeemote JS1 controller for some time now, and it's been causing plenty of excitement amongst developers who see it as a solution to dodgy keypad controls. Now the company has revealed its launch plans, in an interview with Mobile Games Blog. It seems the device will be available next week, albeit in one country and bundled with a single handset. [Read]
Skyfire Brings Full Browser Experience To Nokia S60 Phones (200 ...
Throw out that WAP browser on your cell phone. We are quickly approaching a point where a full browser experience is available on our mobile devices. And it is not just the iPhone. A startup called Skyfire is in some respect even further along than Apple in bringing the entire Web to your phone. Its mobile browser lets you slide Web pages around and zoom in like with the mobile version of Safari. But it also supports Flash and Ajax sites. (It does this by offloading most of the heavy lifting to its servers rather than the mobile client). That means you can watch Youtube videos and go to Google Maps right in the mobile browser instead of having to download separate apps. In contrast, the iPhone's Safari browser still does not support Flash and so to watch a a video you have to launch the separate Youtube app. [Read]
Nokia chops prices across the board on mobile phones!
Nokia is doing better than their rivals such as Motorola or Sony Ericsson, and Nokia isn't about to life the pressure, as it has been reported they are cutting prices across all mobile phone ranges to increase pressure on their rivals. The word is Nokia's largest price cuts are on the Nokia 5310 and Nokia 5610 music phones along with the 8GB Nokia N81, and virtually all other mobile handsets have seen a cut of about 10%. This sudden move by Nokia has come as quite a surprise to the mobile arena; one analyst actually called the move a "Crazy Ivan." [Read]
Sony Ericsson G705 in Two Weeks?
Rumors about Sony Ericsson phones never seem to end. The latest buzz is that the handset maker has a new slider phone, dubbed the Sony Ericsson G705, up its sleeve and is expected to announce it in just two weeks, writes GSMArena. The G705 is said to feature a 2.4-inch screen, a 3 megapixel camera (sadly, with no auto-focus), built-in GPS receiver and WiFi. Nokia's latest touch-screen handset which is dubbed "the Tube" is their attempt at creating a touch screen interface handset aimed at the masses. Although they already have released Nokia devices which use the touch interface, but none of those were aimed at the masses, all were aimed at their Tablet models running on their Maemo platform. If anything, this is what's going to take on the iPhone! [Read]
Chinese 8 megapixel camera phone
Samsung may have the INNOV8, Sony Ericsson C905, but Chinese handset makers aren't sleeping as well. Recently, we've spotted the China-made X908 phone with 8 megapixel camera! Now, I wouldn't expect it to actually compete head to head with Samsung nor Sony Ericsson's offering in terms of image quality, however considering that you'll be able to grab this baby for next to nothing on your next trip to China, it's a worthy contender. Or is it? Let's see the specs first. [Read]
Nokia Axes BlackBerry Connect From E71, E66
Nokia has surprised everyone by not allowing the BlackBerry Connect e-mail client on its new E66 and E71 handsets. BlackBerry does work with a number of smartphone manufacturers, letting them use the BlackBerry Connect e-mail system. But Nokia might well have had enough of that setup, as the company told ZDNet that its new E66 and E71 series phones will drop BlackBerry Connect. In Mobile magazine, Simon Ainslie, Nokia's UK managing director, was quoted as saying the move was because Nokia wanted "an opportunity to give consumers a proper choice on what email solution they want," and to "make email a mass-market proposition for everybody." Photos: iPhone vs HP vs Nokia
This photo shows Apple's iPhone 3G alongside two other new devices, the HP iPaq 914 and Nokia's E71. As the picture demonstrates, they are all approximately the same size, although varying in weight and thickness. All three devices represent the latest technology, supporting 3G wireless broadband, Wi-Fi, and GPS capability for navigation and other location-based services. As such, these are all high-end devices and potential rivals for RIM's BlackBerry models in the enterprise. [Read]
