As the first severe storm of hurricane season barreled toward Florida's Gulf Coast, some weather forecasters were hoping residents were looking to their cell phones instead of the darkening skies. WeatherBug, a weather information service in Germantown, Md., is the latest to announce a new alert system. WeatherBug's product, developed in partnership with Manhattan-based Send Word Now, uses global positioning to pinpoint a subscriber's location and send targeted weather alerts to a cell phone, BlackBerry or other handheld device.
